Since our remit covers the Late Victorian period, the Boer War and North West Frontier, the death of Queen Victoria, the reign of Edward VII and the Great War this is a time of great change. We are able to offer specialised features for any discrete part of this time span and our Victorian, Edwardian and Great War features are popular in their own right. Where we excel is in our unique and innovative “Timeline Presentations”. We establish a chronology through the day which creates a narrative of change. Typically this could be through Edward's reign and into the Great War period.
Our presentation are in one of several specific styles.
1. Drama – A full blown performance performed in character.
2. Forgotten Voices – A descriptive presentation but featuring readings and performances of letters, diaries or accounts from the period.
3. Experts – Presentations on a particular topic but allowing for audience questioning and interaction.
4. Interactive – Features where the public can join in and have a go.
Often these presentations run seamlessly into one another leading the audience through the history of the period.
Of course we also have displays of clothes, equipment, replica and original artefacts and static displays with interpretational materials all supervised by knowledgeable members to ensure there is always something to look at and learn about.
Some of our more popular presentations include:
Votes for Women – The women's suffrage movement
And the band played on - The sinking of the Titanic
Riotous assembly – The suffragettes, civil disobedience and the law
Frocks, corsets and gowns – a fashion show and timeline
A woman's work is never done – Changing women's roles.
Storm clouds gather – the outbreak of the Great War
Nice Girls Amidst the Horrors – nursing in the Great War
Over the top – An interactive and moving presentation on trench warfare.
Interactive features include children's military drill and a “grenade” range, bandaging workshops and even a “mail post” feature allowing the audience to send postcards to other audience members or indeed to arrive at home after the event.
